Pop art is a style of art that arose in the mid- to late-1950s in the United Kingdom and the United States. By integrating material from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books, and everyday mass-produced goods, the movement posed a challenge to traditional fine art traditions. One of its goals is to incorporate imagery of common (rather than elite) culture in art, stressing the prosaic or kitschy aspects of any culture, most often through sarcasm. It's also linked to the employment of mechanical replication or rendering techniques by the artists. Material is visibly separated from its recognised context, isolated, or merged with unrelated material in pop art.
